Midway in the journey of our life, I came to myself in a dark wood for the straight way was lost.
Sometimes accessing pivotal points in our life may be to realize the way forward has been lost. Our work will be to place you on the map of your life in a way that helps orient to what is missing and unseen for the darkness has eyes too. We will do this through listening to the language of the body and the psyche so that its inherent architecture can realign itself. The physiology of the body, like the seasons of nature is still in tune with the natural cycling’s of endings and new beginnings, and knows when it is time to molt and move into the next phase of life. This will be supported in various ways based on what a person is drawn to, comfortable with and listening for what is being asked for in the moment. Finding our “night” vision may include monitoring dreams, use of sand tray, Somatic Experiencing (SE), retreats, group work, intentional walks, solitude time in nature and other various creative mediums to help with being "found".
…You must learn one thing. The world was made to be free in. Give up all the other worlds except the one to which you belong. Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet confinement of your aloneness to learn anything or anyone that does not bring you alive is too small for you. ---David Whyte
Life at times may be a draining endeavor and a uncertainty as to why. It may feel like having to fight strong currents of mainstream culture and swim upstream to retrieve our "nobility of soul" and sense of belonging. This too will be supported in safe surroundings allowing for greater understanding, activation and aliveness. Recalibrating our relationship to Self and other gives us the courage and clarity needed in these times to deepen our roots, stretch our limbs and swim for the homelands of our bigness and belonging.
I do not accept insurance at this time. Sessions are sliding scale and based on what a person can afford. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss an amount that is reasonable and reciprocal.
(At the present time I am focusing my time more on our nature-based and wilderness programs, so I have reduced my private practice hours, and I don't currently have openings. Feel free to contact me and I'll let you know when I do have an opening.)
Recent developments on the national and international level have caused all of us to need to become more aware of the darker side of human nature in ourselves and everyone around us. It was Jung's belief that the most significant contribution any of us can make to the welfare of humanity and, indeed, to the planet itself, is to come to know our own personal dark side, and to discover how to give it expression in a constructive rather than destructive way. Without that effort on the part of large segments of the human community, the destructive expression tends to come forth in an unconscious way. We have seen the fruits of this in recent times, and they are disturbing indeed. For truly, we are seeing what "rough beast" slouches in our own time toward Bethlehem to be born, as William Butler Yates put it in his poem, The Second Coming, published in 1920 immediately after World War I, seeming to foretell World War II. We can only wonder what it might presage now if large numbers of us do not heed the call to work with our own individual darkness, which can otherwise take the potentially destructive forms of anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflict, hostility and rage.
Nature can be a powerful teacher and model for us in how darkness can be integrated with the light side without becoming destructive. The so very natural cycle of birth...death...rebirth is vital to know both intrapersonally and in the natural world around us, and this is why Raymond finds the combination of depth psychology and nature-based personal exploration to have rich potential. For as we know, new birth begins in the darkness.
